4 Tips to Bounce Back
It’s happened to all of us: we set out to achieve a goal, and then we hit a setback.
It can be frustrating, and even discouraging. But it’s important to remember that a setback is not the end of the world. In fact, it can be a learning opportunity.
No one ever said that life was going to be easy. We all face challenges and setbacks, and it’s how we react to these situations that defines us.
So, what do you do when you find yourself facing a difficult situation? Do you give up, or do you pick yourself up and keep going?
I believe that it’s always important to pick yourself up after a setback. Yes, it might be tough, and you might not feel like it, but it’s important to remember that every day is a new day with new opportunities.
If you find yourself struggling, just take a deep breath and remind yourself that you can and will get through this. You are strong, capable, and you will find a way to overcome whatever challenge you’re facing.
Your success will come and those bumps in the road are just that, bumps in the road.
Here are a few tips for how to deal with a setback:
1. Cut yourself some slack. Give yourself a break. Take some time to regroup. This doesn’t mean you should give up on your goal. It just means that you shouldn’t beat yourself up over a setback.
2. Do have some time out. When something doesn’t go our way, we can go straight into beating ourselves up about all the things that we did wrong or could have gone better.
Yes, it is good to have a review of what transpired but don’t be overly critical of yourself.
3. Have a plan B. What is another way that you can achieve your goal? Is this really the best way forward for you? What else could you be doing to help you achieve your outcome? Are there other strategies that you could use?
Remember that there is always more than one way to get a result. What is the best one for your situation?
4. Have an accountability partner or brainstorming partner.
When it comes to making important decisions, it’s always a good idea to get a second opinion. An accountability partner can be a great asset in this regard, providing you with new ideas and perspectives.
Of course, who you choose as your accountability partner is up to you. It could be a life partner, a business partner, your family, friends or colleagues, someone you’ve met through networking, sport or hobbies. The most important thing is that they’re someone you trust and feel comfortable seeking advice from.
So, if you’re feeling stuck or uncertain about a decision, don’t hesitate to reach out to your accountability partner for some guidance. It could be the best move you make.
Whether working with my business coaching clients or speaking to an audience on stage, I believe that we all need some incentive to help us move forward.
Dealing with a setback can be difficult, but it’s important to stay positive and keep moving forward. Remember, a setback is not the end of the world.
Here’s some advice, as given by Jillian Michaels, American author and fitness trainer in my interview with her. Check out the video (about 2 – 3 minutes long) for the full answer to the question.
“What advice would you give when you have those moments when you get pulled down, how do you pick yourself up again?
If it’s a bigger hit, do everything that you can to get the help that you need. There’s no shame in that.”
But also this, “Pamper yourself, something that is life affirming, doing something for yourself. Treat yourself the way you would your children.”
In the meantime, give yourself space for time out and then bounce back with drive and determination.
