3 Steps to getting out of your ‘stuck’

 

What does it mean to be stuck?

For many people it means that there is an aspect of their lives that is holding them back. This could be in their work or career or, their relationships, whether that is with a significant other, family member or friend.

Today, I talk to Kim Peek in her podcast, Crushing My Goals.

 

When we can discover what that is in ourselves, we are able to break free of what is holding us back.

My own journey of empowerment meant breaking free of two powerful men in my life – my father and my ex-husband, both of whom wanted me to do things their way.

It was a powerful lesson to learn and yet, in their own way, they helped me to understand who I was and what I am meant to do.

They helped me to find my own path, and that I didn’t need to follow somebody else’s roadmap.

It is this empowerment that has drawn others, in particular women, to me, to help them to live their best lives.

Many times, they’ve tried things on their own, only to fall back into patterns they are creating over and over again. They need someone on the outside to look at things from a new perspective. That’s where I come in.

As a life coach or, as I prefer to call myself, a Mindset and Transformational Coach, I am able to give you new ways of looking at your goals, your purpose and what you are trying to achieve.

As human beings we love to tell ourselves stories.

We tell ourselves we can’t (right now), we’re not good enough, there’s not enough time, or any of the other multitude of reasons we can come up with.

We have to ask ourselves is this genuine and where is it coming from?

With this in mind I have put together 3 things that you need to look at to move yourself forward.

1. Understanding of yourself, and your actions.

The first step to understanding where you are at is to look at who you are, where you fit in, and why have things turned out the way they have.

What actions have your done, or not done, to get you to this space?

What is it that you actually want to achieve?

Sometimes we tell ourselves that we want something, but do we really want it?

We need to dig underneath our layers of what we think is our truth to find the real truth.

2. What to do about it

The second step then is a matter of deciding what to do about it.

When we understand where we are at and our own actions, we can decide how to move forward.

And, importantly, it’s ok to not want to do anything about it.

Sometimes we are not in a position to do something right now.

If that is the case, you can plan for the future, when you will be able to take the actions to achieve your goals.

You can step into the new you when it is a better time.

This gives you more control over your current situation.

For example, if you want to have a big career change, but can’t make a career move right now because of your commitments, ask yourself, what can you do in the meantime? Do you need to get educated, improve your finances, learn more about the industry, do some research into what is involved in your new career?

In this way, you will be prepared to make the move when you are ready.

3. End date

X is the date on your calendar. It is your end date.

If you do nothing, nothing will change.

By putting an X on your calendar, you hold yourself accountable.

For example, you might be in a relationship that you are not completely ready to let go of.  You might still want to give it one more try, and rather than letting years and years go by, put an X on your calendar and by that date you can see if things have changed.

If you don’t see that things are changing, you can say, time’s up, and move on, knowing that you have given it another shot.

These three steps are empowering and can be applied to many different scenarios in our own lives.
